‘The colors duke, the colors!’
Sony really gets me on new DualShock 4 purchases.
It’s probably been the most faulty controller I’ve ever used in my life (and I’ve been gaming since the Atari 2600), with two of them failing due to crumbling analog rubber and two more dying due to faulty triggers. But as a reviewer I need to actually be able to play games on a daily basis, so over the past several years I’ve had a few “yeah I need to go out and buy a controller right now” moments: one of these newly revealed DualShock 4s could be on my shopping list eventually.
Revealed today by Sony, the colors are (from left to right, though the descriptors are obvious) “Rose Gold,” Titanium Blue, Electric Purple, and Red Camouflage. The newest member of my dysfunctional DualShock family is the “Magma Red,” and I think the Electric Purple would go very nicely with it. But at $60-$65 MSRP (they’re occasionally found for $45), I’ll wait. There’s also a new Rose Gold headset design (based off the “Gold Wireless Headset”) that pairs with the remote.
You can find more granular info on the controllers and headset on the official blog post here or catch the video below. Sony reminds us that there are now over 25 different color schemes for PS4 controllers, and these will be sold for $65 MSRP in the fall, with the headset going for $100.
