Forza Horizon 4 developer ‘really happy with stability and performance’ of PC version

Specs based on 60fps, not 30

The PC version of Forza Horizon 3 was suboptimal at launch. It was the first Horizon title to come to PC, and it took developer Playground Games a few months to get some performance issues ironed out. Playground says it won’t be making those mistakes again.

Talking with PC Gamer at gamescom, art director Benjamin Penrose mentioned that Forza Horizon 4‘s recommended specs will be based on 60 frames per second, not 30. That’s a significant step up from Horizon 3. “We’re really happy with the stability and performance from launch this time round. And we’ve also got a whole bunch of new options you can push [your PC] to the extreme beyond Ultra, if you’ve got a very powerful PC,” Penrose said.

Forza Horizon 4 will also have HDR support right from the beginning. For Horizon 3, HDR was a post-launch feature that made its way to Xbox One but not to PC. It seems as if — at least judging by this interview — Horizon 4‘s PC version should be immediately up to snuff when it releases on October 2.

Penrose appeared ready to acknowledge Horizon 3‘s shortcomings on PC. “We learned a lot [from Forza Horizon 3], we knew things weren’t as smooth as they could’ve been, and there were some issues there from launch. But that’s why we spent a lot of time focusing to make sure we get it right this time.”
