Forget Level 60, Pokémon Go is introducing Level 80 this October!

Big step up!

Pokémon Go fans, it’s finally happening, as Scopely has confirmed a much-needed change to the level system that’ll allow you to go beyond Level 50 in Pokémon Go—finally.

The news was broken to Destructoid and other media during a pre-release event, which went into details on what trainers can expect to see from the new system, as well as how trainers who already have reached level 50 will be rewarded.

From Oct. 15, trainers will see the Level Cap increase from Level 50 all the way to Level 80, with the overall leveling curve being rebalanced to factor in the new amount of levels, with Scopely wanting to make sure trainers can earn levels more frequently instead of having to get millions upon millions of EXP to reach a single late level.

Scopely also plans to introduce new rewards for level-up progression, like increased storage capacity for Pokémon, items, and Gifts. This includes new avatar items starting at level 25. Based on previously earned experience, some trainers may automatically jump in level on October 15 and earn a bunch of awards from the get-go. Scopely has promised that no trainers will go down in level, either.

Tasks for Level-Up Research from levels 41 to 50 will also be removed following this update on Oct. 15, with new Level-Up Research rewards being implemented from Level 71 to 80 instead. Trainers who reach level 70 in this new system will also have a higher chance of becoming Lucky Friends with other Trainers on their friends list, as a reward for making it that far.

By Oct. 14, 11:59pm local time, players will earn special medals commemorating their highest achieved level before the update and a new level 50 avatar pose. Existing rewards, such as Avatar items earned by reaching levels 40 to 50, alongside the Level 50 Jacket, will no longer be earnable come Oct. 15, with these items being exclusively for legacy players that hit the highest heights.

Trainers will keep any items they earned, but players who haven’t reached level 50 yet will not get these items, so you have a few short weeks to try and finish all your Level-Up Research to get all the rewards before it is too late.

To help trainers level up faster, Scopely is hosting an XP celebration event, which will increase the amount of XP you can get from things like Excellent Throws, Winning Raids, and Max Battles, and more. These bonuses will stack on top of other events happening during this timeframe.

So get ready, trainers, for Level 80 will soon be upon us!
