First upgrades to get early in Avatar: FoP

Get a head start against the RDA.

As is the case with other open world Ubisoft games, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora has a lot of upgrade options. Resources are limited, so choosing what to upgrade and when is something to seriously consider. If you’re spoilt for choice, here are some recommendations for what to upgrade first.

What skills to upgrade or unlock first in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora

The biggest difference you’ll notice from upgrades in Frontiers of Pandora is with the various skill trees. There are five separate skill trees that each focus on a different area of your Na’vi’s abilities. As you progress further into the game, you’ll want to ensure that these trees are relatively balanced with upgrades, but that’s not necessarily the best way to start.

I recommend starting with the “Survivor” tree that focuses on health and related upgrades. The first upgrade on the tree is “Vitality I,” which increases your base health by 30. After that, “Larger Healing Pouch I” is accessible for two skill points. That’s a crucial upgrade since the standard pouch only has slots for two healing items, which is far too low when fighting the RDA.

Next, jump over to the “Warrior” skill tree. The first upgrade is “Strength I,” which increases your attack damage by 5%. After that, “Extra Ammo I” provides a noticeable quality of life improvement by doubling your available ammo, arrows, and spears. You’ll also have access to “Strength II” and “Extra Ammo II” immediately after getting the first upgrades, but you can come back to those later.

Now, the next suggestion depends on your playstyle. If, like me, you prefer to take a stealth approach to the game, then these are must have upgrades. The “Hunter” tree has three abilities to decrease and eventually eliminate the sound that you make. “Shadow Hunter” makes it harder for you to be detected and faster while crouching, “Light-Footed Hunter I” eradicates all sound when crouching, and finally, “Light-Footed Hunter II” stops all movement noise, even when sprinting. Those RDA thugs will never hear you coming.

If, however, you prefer to go in guns blasting, I’d recommend further upgrading your base damage in the Warrior tree instead.

All of the above skills can be upgraded with skill points earned from missions, but you can further upgrade your health at any time. Finding and touching Bellsprigs located across Pandora will give you instant health increases. It’s worth searching these plants out if you need more health before progressing further in the story.

Once you’re done upgrading your skills, don’t forget to craft new weapons and armor to make your Na’vi even stronger in the fight against the RDA.
