First look at Klei’s turn-based tactical game Incognita

Stick it to the man

So this is what “turn-based tactical espionage” looks like when it’s coming from the studio behind Mark of the Ninja and Don’t Starve. Klei Entertainment has kindly given us a first look at Incognita with a livestream that I totally missed out on earlier today. Thank goodness for archives!

Even as an early build, this shows well. You’ll bring agents into a secure complex with the hope of reaching the top floor while looking for intelligence documents and gear along the way. Thanks to alarms, procedural generation, and permadeath, that’s easier said than done.

The mainframe view, which strips out elements of the environment and highlights the important stuff — items, characters, etc. — in particular looks really neat. A beta for Incognita is coming out in the next couple months with a final release targeting 2014.
