First Guitar Hero: World Tour songs revealed, in-game music store after launch

Obviously, the soundtrack in a music game can make or a break a title, and Neversoft proved they could deliver the killer tunes with their solid Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock track list. Based on what we saw at a first-look press event a few weeks ago, it looks like they’re on track to impress again with the soundtrack for their multi-instrument Guitar Hero: World Tour.

While we didn’t go hands-on with the game, three songs were demonstrated live — Foo Fighter’s “Everlong,” Sublime’s “Santeria,” and Billy Idol’s near-perfect 80s rock track, “Rebel Yell.” The game’s 85-or-so-song soundtrack will be completely comprised of master tracks from what Neversoft is referring to as “triple-A acts.” While Activision will only let us also say that tracks by Linkin Park, The Eagles, and Van Halen will also be included in the game, we did see and hear some other selections that are sure to impress. We were certainly impressed.

Also revealed were Neversoft’s plans for downloadable content, which will include an in-game music store that will be added to the game via an update shortly after launch.

“I can’t give you any specifics,” Neversoft’s Brian Bright told us, “But we are working hard towards supplying a steady stream of downloadable content from big-name bands at launch, and as we move forward. [DLC is] one of the big priorities for Guitar Hero: World Tour.”
