Get ready to fire up those tactical neurons in your brain, as Idea Factory and Compile Heart’s Fairy Fencer F Refrain Chord is set to bring the grid-based combat on April 25.

Fairy Fencer F Refrain Chord is a tactical RPG set in a world where the Goddess and the Vile God have an ongoing feud. Their last encounter resulted in them sealing each other away in the time-out corner. However, they’ve dropped a mess of leftover weapons that are sought by warriors known as Fencers. You join a fencer named Fang and his companions as they set out to find the Furies and resurrect the Goddess.

You can expect your usual slate of TRPG mechanics, such as terrain modifiers, buffs, and spells. You can also use your collected Furies to stab the world map (?) to unlock hidden locations and fairies.

I love fairies, but I know absolutely nothing about the Fairy Fencer F series and had to do a bunch of research just to make sure I wasn’t saying something inaccurate when I summarized what it’s all about. Our own CJ Andriesson, on the other hand, gave it a mention as a runner-up to his most anticipated games of the year. Personally, I’m a big fan of CJ’s taste in games, so I take stock in that. Hopefully, he’ll grace us with a review of it, but I’m neither his editor nor his mom, so that’s up to him.

Fairy Fencer F Refrain Chord will be hitting PS4, PS5, and Switch on April 25, 2023.
