Hot off the heels of id announcing that Rage may need two discs for the Xbox 360, here comes Square Enix with an even bigger problem. There’s just too much Final Fantasy XIII for one DVD, or even two DVDs, with Yoshinori Kitase “aiming” to squeeze the game onto three.
“This is not the final count as we’re still working on it, but we’re aiming for about three discs for the Xbox 360 version,” explains the producer. The PS3 fanboys are going to have a field day with this one, since apparently multiple discs is the hallmark of an inferior product. Despite this, Kitase wants to assure gamers that neither version will be better than the other.
“The 360 version and the PS3 version should be pretty much equal, both in terms of content and the visuals as well,” he says, hoping to appease the wrath of the console loyalists. “Since the hardware is different, there might be some subtle differences if you compare screenshots side by side, but the team’s being very careful about the compression of the data and the visuals, so that it’s exactly the same on both.”
I really don’t see the big deal about multiple DVDs. It’s not like my Xbox 360 is sat at one end of a giant Viking banquet hall that I’d have to traverse in order to swap discs. However, I’m not a twelve-year-old retard, so I can see how some people consider this a huge deal and a massive “victory” for the PS3 version. They will be dancing in the streets like those villagers did the morning after 9/11, once word of this chicanery spreads.
