Final Fantasy VII remake has contextual crouching, more action-y combat

‘You’re doing this for the planet’

[extremely nerds voice] “You’re doing this for the planet, same as us!”

There’s a bit of actual, early gameplay from the Final Fantasy VII PS4 remake announced at E3 this year. You can see a bit of the, “more realistic gameplay” they’re said to be going for with a more dynamic, Final Fantasy XV style game, unless it’s more turn-based than it looks coupled with dynamic angles and auto movement (like Final Fantasy XIII).

There’s contextual environment stuff like in the original, which is pretty cool, though it looks less doofy than jumping. But I always worried about a potential remake losing the original level design, which features way more verticality than most JRPGs, so it’s cool that some of that seems intact.

Plus, Barret just walking around cool-like in shades.

We’ll get the trailer up when it hits Sony’s YouTube, until then follow along with the keynote here.
