Final Fantasy Tactics out for iOS today, iPad this month

Final Fantasy Tactics has lived on as one of my favorite games for a very long time. It has sit up at the top of the ranks since that first PSOne release while others have come and gone. I’m so glad that this game is now in its most portable form, as an iOS title. It’s out today as an almost 500mb download from the App Store, priced at $15.99. Knowing that I can bust out my iPhone and give this killer SRPG another go at any time is somehow comforting. I know how weird that sounds.

In this latest version you can use the touch screen interface, tapping units and menus now. Instead of switching fixed map views, you can now rotate, move and change the size of maps by sliding and pinching. Square Enix says that the loading times have also improved and certain cut scenes can be skipped.

And a last bit of good news for those hoping to get a bigger iOS FFT experience: Square Enix says that the iPad version of this game will be out later this month! I hope it’s as pretty as the iPad version of Final Fantasy III was.
