If you live in Japan, buying Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will score you a soundtrack sampler of past Final Fantasy themes. Pretty standard stuff, and barely worth posting about.
Now, if you buy the Wii version of the game, you get a happy-fun extra extra bonus. Each and every Echoes of Time disc contains a new trailer for the long-awaited Wii title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers. Keep in mind, Echoes of Time is that new Final Fantasy game coming to both the DS and the Wii that offers no visual upgrades between the two versions. So basically, if you buy the Wii’s Echoes of Time, you have to deal with DS-quality graphics while reaping none of the rewards of portability.
Square Enix must have sensed that consumers weren’t going to be too keen on that bargain, and as such have decided to throw this trailer at us in hopes of seducing the few suckers out there who were even remotely considering buying the “ugly-even-for-a-Wii-game” Wii rendition of Echoes of Time. If I sound bitter, it’s because now I totally have to buy the Wii rendition of Echoes of Time because I can’t say no to those God damn Crystal Bears Bearers. I’ve tried. I’ve looked at those partially transparent little bastards and tried to say “NO,” but instead it just keeps coming out “…I love you.”
Both versions of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time will be released in Japan on January 29, 2009.
