Final Fantasy Type-0 might not be getting a long-ago-promised international release, but it appears it’s getting a mobile follow up. Ironically, Type-0 began life as a mobile game titled Final Fantasy Agito XIII before ballooning into a PSP game that got rebranded.

Japanator picked up on a Famitsu leak that says a new title, Final Fantasy Agito, is coming to iOS and Android in Japan this winter. More details coming from another source, translated, fill in other blanks. The game will be free-to-play with microtransactions and things like paid continues. There will also be asynchronous multiplayer. The game’s director, Masayasu Nishida, worked on Star Ocean 1-3 and Radiata Stories

There also seems to be a weird, episodic story structure wherein new chapters are released every two weeks and the story evolves or changes based on player input, possibly a voting system, like a cooperative choose your own adventure.

Despite landing on mobile devices, screens point to Agito being a full 3D game that boasts better visuals than the PSP, though it’s obviously stuck to pure touch screen controls. More details might come at Tokyo Game Show, but given that this is looking like mobile junk (and given that we never got Type-0) I doubt this should be on anyone’s radar..
