Fight Night Champion revealed

Electronic Arts has announced that the Fight Night series is making its return next year with Fight Night Champion.

IGN reports that the new game will feature 60 to 65 boxers, an all new single-player mode, as well as something called “Full Spectrum Punch Control.” Developer EA Canada says this will allow for “the most realistic punching system ever seen,” as well as making it “the most user-friendly title” in the series to date.

The developer is also promising an all new career mode, teasing something unexpected that will include the “drama, emotion, excitement and tragedy of world championship boxing.” I know a thing or two about that — I recently watched a Sonny Liston biopic, Phantom Punch, starring Ving Rhames as the monster puncher. I learned that while police ruled Liston’s death a heroin overdose, the running theory is that he was killed by the mob. So what I’m trying to say here is that I hope the mob plays some role in Fight Night Champion, okay?

EA will reveal the title in more detail tonight at its studio showcase, and we’ll be there. Expect more info later this week.
