EA Sports is quite pleased with the launch-week performance of FIFA 11. A press release this morning says that this was the biggest launch week ever for a sports game. The latest in EA’s soccer series sold over 2.6 million copies and generated over $150 million at retail.

The title launched in the US on September 28th, and in Europe on October 1st. With these EA figures up to October 2nd, this officially makes FIFA 11 the fastest-selling sports game ever. Beyond that, the first two days ater launch in Europe were the busiest EA has on record for online gaming, with more than 18.6 million connections — 11.3 million of those being FIFA 11 game sessions.

That’s a lot of hubbub over some kicky ball! Of course, soccer is big in over 50 countries and FIFA 11 is out for just about every system, including phones.
