FFXIV suspends housing auto-demolition on Japanese servers after major earthquake

Not for the first time, FFXIV show us how much they care

Showing just how much the development team cares for and supports their players in times of crisis, Final Fantasy XIV has temporarily suspended the auto-demolition of player housing on Japanese Servers after a massive magnitude 7.6 Earthquake that hit the Noto Peninsula on January 1.

In a post uploaded to the Lodestone on January 4, developers acknowledged the tragedy and said their “hearts go out to those who were effected” by the natural disaster, which has left over 100 dead and many more still missing. The team goes on to say that “due to the damages and other factors, we have decided to temporarily suspend the automatic demolition of estates”.

Housing auto-demolition paused on Japanese Final Fantasy XIV servers

It’s not the first time that the FFXIV team has offered their support to players during tough times. Housing auto-demolition was canceled indefinitely for all servers during the COVID outbreak in 2020 and, in a haunting reflection of current events, the same happened after the Kumamoto Earthquakes in 2016.

In a documentary by Noclip, Yoshi P discussed the 2016 tragedy and told a heart-touching story of how logging into the game was the only way for players across Japan to find out if their online friends were safe.

No date has been set for auto-demolition to return to Japanese servers. To find out more, head over to the Lodestone or keep an eye on FFXIV’s Twitter posts.
