Go grab FFXIV’s free flying polar bear mount now

Yes, a flying polar bear mount

I still can’t believe that Final Fantasy XIV went from the soulless game I played at E3 over a decade ago to the joyous current incarnation under the Realm Reborn banner. It’s insane to think that Square Enix even allowed it to happen, but under the guidance of Naoki “Yoshi P” Yoshida, we’re multiple expansions in and the game is still going strong. And those free season events are still happening: this time, there’s a flying polar bear mount.

Yep, sound the alarm! You can get the “Polar Bear” in FFXIV now via the Moonfire Faire event, which just kicked off. This is an annual thing for the world of FFXIV, and it just so happened to go live this morning, running through August 26 at 7:59 PT.

All you need to do to start it is log in and go to Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X:11.5 Y:13.8) to meet Mayaru Moyaru. And, as a reader pointed out, be level 30 or above. That’s it! From there you can follow a sequence of quests that will eventually grant you the flying polar bear mount. To be specific, you’ll get the Polar Bear Horn item, which you can use to teach you the mount. It sports the “crystal ice” mount action, which flourishes some frosty effects for fun.

Moonfire Faire also provides new outdoor furnishing items in case you want more than the polar bear. Although I’m technically from Gridania, Limsa is where my heart is. I love going back to that city for anything, events included.
