FF7 Rebirth Corel: Every Fiend Intel location and strategy

Surf and turf.

Fiends are groups of more difficult variations of normal enemies within Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Chadley will have you fight them for intel alongside his aggravating sidekick, MAI. Corel is the same in regards to this as the last two regions.

One difference, however, is that Corel is broken into two sections. The first two Fiend Intel locations are in the north side that you start on, with the other four being south of the border. The southern part of the region will become available after a long detour and a stop in the Golden Saucer.

Fiend Intel 1: Hit the Squids – Shankhalopod

  • Pressure an enemy.
  • Stagger an enemy
  • Defeat all enemies within the time limit

The Shankhalopod are found on the north part of the beach south of Costa del Sol.

The Shankhalopods have an annoying habit of ducking into their shell to protect themselves, but all their strategy is undone by some fire magic. Not only are they weak and pressured by it, but fire spells also get by their shells, so they’re completely helpless to it. Just keep hitting them with flames, and they’ll be done before the time limit even becomes a concern.

Fiend Intel 2: Seahorsing Around – Heliopora Terpsicolt

  • Pressure an enemy.
  • Stagger an enemy.
  • Defeat all enemies within the time limit.

The Heliopora Terpsicolt are found in the southern-most point of the initial part of Corel you can explore (before going to the Gold Saucer).

If you let the Heliopora Terpsicolt get a word in, they can be pretty annoying. However, they’re both weak to and pressured by ice attacks. You can also pressure them by dodging their Leech attack, but I found this unreliable. Really, they’re pretty fragile little creatures, so if you hit them with more powerful ice attacks, they won’t last long.

Fiend Intel 3: Top of the Pecking Order – Saberhawk

  • Stagger an enemy.
  • Don’t get stunned.
  • Defeat all enemies within the time limit.

The Saberhawks are in the southwest side of the region, just south of where Barret had his moment.

This is a pretty straightforward fight. They’re weak to fire, and that’s also how you stun them. The biggest trouble with them is they flit around a lot and don’t stay in one spot for long. However, the fire spells typically find their mark, regardless of how evasive your prey is being. Just keep up the heat.

As for not getting stunned, I never really had a problem with it. Just keep moving and hitting them with spells and they won’t have much of a chance to use any special attacks on you.

Fiend Intel 4: Death from Below – Duneworm

  • Stagger an enemy.
  • Defeat the enemy without getting swallowed.
  • Defeat all enemies within the time limit.

Brace yourself for this one. The Duneworm is found on the east side of southern Corel in what appears to be the ribcage of a giant.

The Duneworm is the first fiend that really gave me trouble. The issue is with the second optional intel objective; not getting swallowed. Early in the fight, the Duneworm will duck beneath the sands, then emerge and try to suck up one of your party members. It is very difficult to evade. My best advice is to keep moving while it’s under the sand and be in control of one of the more nimble party members, such as Red XIII.

The Duneworm has a weakness against ice, and doing a lot of ice damage is actually how you pressure it. If you have a level 3 ice materia, consider using Blizzaga. Regardless of what you do, you will probably need to dodge at least one swallow attempt. Even knowing the weakness, it takes a long time to build up its pressure into a stagger. You might be retrying this a few times if you want all the objectives.

Fiend Intel 5: Fish out of Water – Bladefin

  • Pressure an enemy.
  • Stagger an enemy.
  • Defeat all enemies within the time limit.

The Bladefin can be found in the north of the bottom half of Corel, or around the middle of the entire region.

They’re not too difficult of a battle, but they can be annoying. They stay underground, only popping up to attack. This is also when you should hit them, as causing enough damage while they’re above ground is how they get pressured.

They don’t have an elemental weakness, but they also don’t have a whole lot of health. This probably won’t give you too much trouble.

Fiend Intel 6: Unholy Union – Silver Chimera

  • Exploit an enemy’s weakness.
  • Stagger an enemy.
  • Defeat all enemies within the time limit.

The Silver Chimera are pretty far off the beaten path in the southeast of southern Corel. The only reason to go down there, really, is to activate the tower and face off against them.

The Silver Chimera are tough but straightforward to beat. They’re weak to fire, but that’s not how you pressure them. They simply become pressured on their own whenever they use their mid-range aquatic cannon. If you watch carefully enough for when they do this, you can exploit their pressured window and push them into staggered.

Just be careful because they are both hardy and aggressive. Also, make sure you hit them with fire at least once to grab the first intel objective.
