FarmVille and Dreyer’s/Edy’s plant real trees

There’s a real FarmVille. It’s FarmVille, Virginia, and the top players of Zynga’s popular Facebook game will be going there to plant real trees in a real orchard. 

The makers of Dreyer’s/Edy’s Fruit Bars and Zynga have put together this promotion that will run from June 13 to June 19, 2011. FarmVille players across the country will plant limited edition Dreyer’s/Edy’s Fruit Bars branded crops within the FarmVille game. A handful of lucky players have been selected to plant trees in real life, as well. This is part of the Fruit Bars company’s drive to revitalize interest in fruit trees, and they plan to visit other communities to plant more trees this summer.

I think these gamers are going to be surprised at how much harder real life is. In Facebook you simply click a few times to do anything. This IRL version of planting trees is going to involve shovels, dirt, sweat, sun and effort. I hope they can dig it.
