Far Cry Primal’s PC specs are a wild beast tamed

Not so brutal

Recommended Videos

Like its animals that can be turned into tender companions, Far Cry Primal‘s PC requirements had the opportunity to cause havoc. That has certainly been the case with some recent high-profile games, such as Star Wars Battlefront and it asking for 16GB RAM.

A better comparison is with Far Cry 4. It might be expected that they line up perfectly given that Primal is built on the framework of Far Cry 4. Surprisingly, that’s not quite the case; the two keep dancing around one another but never quite fall in sync. Primal actually has lower minimum requirements, and then higher optimal specs (Far Cry 4’s were far from high-end in the first place, requiring an i5 processor for an ideal experience).

Here’s the bare minimum you’ll need to be able to run Far Cry Primal on PC:

  • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • Processor: Intel Core i3-550, AMD Phenom II X4 955 or equivalent
  • RAM: 4GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (1GB VRAM), AMD Radeon HD 5770 (1GB VRAM) or equivalent
  • Hard Disk Space: 20 GB
  • Peripherals: Windows-compatible keyboard, mouse, optional controller

And here’s what’s recommended for an optimal experience:

  • OS: Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K, AMD FX-8350 or equivalent
  • RAM: 8GB
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780, AMD Radeon R9 280X or equivalent
  • Hard Disk Space: 20 GB
  • Peripherals: Windows-compatible keyboard, mouse, optional controller
