Fanboy Friday: Huge Ass Scratch Edition

Recommended Videos

As most of you are probably aware, a couple days ago Scott Steinberg, the Sony VP of Marketing, had a few things to say about how amazing Killzone 2 was. Mostly he just gushed about how it was the greatest game ever and would be a 360 killer and blah blah blah whatever. It’s PR speak and it’s what he’s paid to do, so it shouldn’t come as a huge shock.

Someone on the GameFAQS message board noticed his statement, and as predicted it quickly turned from a discussion of what he actually said into an orgy of people freaking out, throwing fits, and talking about how awesome Halo 3 is. Are you ready?

Hey guys! It’s a fanboy war!
360 FANBOYS VS. PS3 FANBOYS
HEAVEN OR HELL
DUEL 1
LET’S ROCK!

I’ll be the first to say that what Scott Steinberg said was pretty ridiculous, but you really can’t be surprised or shocked. Anytime a big company head makes a statement, whether it comes from Nintendo, Microsoft, or Sony, it’s probably going to be a bunch of PR bullshit. What’s interesting though is how almost no one chooses to discuss what he said and why he’s wrong (or right), and instead they spend a bunch of time being fanboys.

Some people use the sorry state of the economy to talk about why they hate the PS3 so much. One guy is convinced that there is a vast conspiracy from people on welfare who steal his money and use it to buy video games and Playstations. At least he can comfort himself knowing that everyone buying a PS3 with their welfare/unemployment check will probably starve to death because they’re buying games instead of food.

Yeah, I’m really going to pay 500 George Washingtons to play one game in this craptastic economy where I don’t even know if I will have an income tomorrow.

Guess what, we have people without jobs, living off of our tax money to buy video games. This makes me even more angry.

A couple people actually did talk about the article, and were really upset that Sony was trying to hype their game up. In the magical little bubble they live in, games for the Wii and 360 are sold solely on their own merits, and there’s no bullshit marketing or advertising to get people to buy games. It’s just good, solid gameplay and amazing graphics. Sony, on the other hand, are a bunch of slimey whores who will just shill video games out to try to build hype, even if they’re not that good. I am glad that Microsoft has the decency to avoid overhyping their games.

Don’t buy into the hype, or you’ll waste 60 bucks on a crap game sony paid people to praise. Don’t get me wrong, microsoft does the same thing. But microsoft doesn’t hype their games up like they are the second coming of Jesus Christ. Sony should have learned from Haze and the miserable flop that game was.

Speaking of “overhyped”, let’s talk about Halo!

Honestly and coming from someone who is not big on FPS my opinion is. “After Halo 3 why do I ever need to buy another FPS again?”

While we’re talking about how noble Microsoft is, this guy makes a very valid point. Microsoft is extremely well known for excellent customer service, fixing any problems the minute they arise, and getting game patches through QC quickly and efficiently. I don’t see how anyone COULDN’T automatically reach the same conclusion he does. Especially since there’s already a patch out on the PS3 that fixes all the stuff he’s bitching about, because there were mass complaints and an immediate fix.

This game would have drawn mass complaints on the 360, certainly causing an immediate aiming/control/input delay fix. KZ would be a better game on the 360 as a result, IMO.

The way this is written, it looks like it should be a poem or something, but it’s not. I actually feel bad for this guy, since it’s clear that he’s suffering from some sort of weird medical condition. It must be hard for him to play video games from inside his plastic allergy-shield bubble.

360 win by a landslide.
ps3 make me sick even if a take one glance at it. how can it win?
i wont even try it. might make me break out in hives.
true story. its that bad.

I REALLY, REALLY hope this guy is joking, but as what usually happens, a glance at the other posts he’s made around the forums suggest that he’s not. For humanity’s sake though, let’s all hope and pray that he’s being sarcastic.

I rented Killzone 2 as well, i got home and placed it gently inside of my 360… The piece of **** game din’t even work! what the hell? So i kicked my 360 over, took the game out and noticed a huge ass scratch around the killzone game… hopefully i won’t be charged, but hey if they try i’ll say “Hey **** YOU! IT DIN’T EVEN WORK FOR MY 360! IT WAS BROKEN FROMT HE GET GO!”

Really, this whole thing is dumb. From what I’ve heard, Killzone 2 seems to be a pretty great game. It might not be the second coming, but it’s pretty and seems to play fairly well, especially since it’s been patched to fix some of the control problems. Not that I would be caught dead playing a console FPS, but if I were to buy one, Killzone 2 would be under consideration. Regardless, it’s not really a discussion worth having, because as everyone knows:

people forget that no-one cares about playstation anymore.

And I’m spent. Inspiried by the quasi poem above, I’m challenging all of you to write your best fanboy poem about Killzone 2. Either why it’s the greatest game ever made and the savior of the PS3, or why it’s the worst piece of shit you’ve ever seen and not even worth taking a dump on. All types of poems are allowed, but remember that haikus are the lazy man’s poem. The best poem will be posted next week, and you’ll win a fabulous prize!*

*The fabulous prize is the love, adoration, and respect of the internet for your incredible wit, lyricism, and talent.
