Fan group Zelda Reorchestrated is closing down

Saddest of days

Zelda Reorchestrated first gained prominence just over three years ago with the release of an Ocarina of Time symphonic arrangement. Since then, the site has expanded with new music from various Zelda games. The entire movement even inspired other orchestral game projects, such as last year’s Kanto Symphony. The ZREO team’s latest work, Twilight Symphony, was to be the biggest, most polished undertaking yet. They were also working directly with Nintendo to hammer out details for a retail release via Joypad Records and iTunes and everything.

But all wasn’t well. Originally scheduled for release last fall, Twilight Symphony kept missing its launch dates. Nintendo and ZREO seemingly couldn’t reach an agreement, and eventually everything just… stopped. With a heavy heart, the team decided to voluntarily close the door on ZREO and move on to bigger and better things. The site will remain open until June 12, 2013, so if you want to grab the available music before it’s gone, you better do so quickly.

Unfortunately, this also means that Twilight Symphony will never see a proper release. Kickstarter backers and pre-order customers were sent the promised three-disc physical album, but the digital version shall forever remain in limbo. Not that you still can’t obtain it if you know where to look. The team suggests searching for torrents, which they have thus far ignored for obvious reasons.

This is poopy. I own one of the few physical albums — I was just listening to it at the gym this afternoon! It doesn’t make any sense how other licensed fan albums like Kanto Symphony and the recent Super Metroid Symphony cleared with seemingly no issue but this one was saddled with all the bad luck. I simply hope for the best in whatever the individual team members plan to do in the future. Thanks for all the good music, guys!
