Silver Lining, a fan-made ninth chapter in the long-abandoned King’s Quest series of games was slapped with a cease and desist order from Activision (who, through a long chain of acquisitions, owns the property) back in March. After ten years, an earlier conflict with the mega-publisher thought to have been resolved reared its head and the project seemed to be at a premature conclusion.
Perhaps the story isn’t over just yet, though. Kotaku is reporting that an outcry of fan support has driven Activision to reach out to the Silver Lining team, Phoenix Online Studios, and the two are in discussions to allow the project to be released.
I really hope this happens. One of the first ten or so games I played on a computer was King’s Quest 2: Romancing the Throne and I’d very much like another opportunity to delve into Daventry.
