Facebook’s new policy to disallow Apps from sending notifications has had a significant effect on the social network’s gaming arena, according to new figures gathered by Gamasutra. In just four weeks since the rule went into affect, there has been a sharp decrease in Facebook gamers.
The figures show that Farmville has suffered a loss of 4.4 million players since the notification ban. In fact, 18 of the top 25 Facebooks have lost players, with 12 of them losing at least a million. Mindjolt Games was hit hardest, with its 1,000-strong casual library taking a hit of eight million.
This isn’t great news for Facebook developers, but those of us who didn’t need a billion Farmville notifications a day have been quite relieved thus far. So, swings n’ roundabouts.
