DDoS Attacks couldn’t keep ’em down

Extra Live, a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals gaming fundraiser, pulled in $3.7 million dollars for the cause. This weekend, more than 31,000 players did their part over 25 hours of play, with participants from every U.S. state, as well as others from all over Canada and abroad.

This was accomplished even with DDoS network attacks taking place throughout the weekend. Those attacks crashed extra-life.org at noon on November 2. No worries, though. The drive was a success, breaking records, and DonorDrive, their tech partner, confirms that all personal data is safe.

“We’re all still a little stunned someone would want to hurt a program that’s helping hospitalized kids,” said Jeromy ‘Doc’ Adams, Extra Life’s founder and a director at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Extra-Life.org is accepting donations for member children’s hospitals through Dec. 31, 2013 and thousands more players have continued to sign up Monday. A make-up day will take place on November 9.
