Exclusive: EDF Insect Armageddon gets local co-op, more guns

If you hang around here a lot, you may already be aware that I am a little obsessed with a game called Earth Defense Force: 2017. I’ve been hoping for a sequel for a while now, and when Insect Armageddon was announced last month, I literally tore my shirt off and ran around the house yelping like a calf in heat. Yep. That’s what it was like.

We’ve gone hands on with the game already, and we’re really thrilled about how good it looks. But today, we bring you  juicy, exclusive new info on the title straight from D3. The new video above confirms split screen local co-op, which is exactly what I wanted to hear since I intend to invite friends over for the destruction of every bug that thinks it is going to get in my way.

We can also look forward to an insane number of weapons to be found — THREE HUNDRED. TWICE as many as the previous game. Hang on just a sec, got to run around my my shirt off again…right. Done. Anyway, D3 also tells us there will be weapon drops in every campaign, so it ought to keep us busy for some time. Could there be a new equivalent to the Genocide gun? I think there just might…

Follow EDF on Facebook for new announcements on the title, which comes to Xbox 360 and PS3 next spring. It may be mere months before we can revel in such golden moments as “Oh no! The old man’s been killed!” I can’t wait!
