Evo founders launch Kickstarter for new game Stonehearth

It’s not what you’d expect

Tom and Tony Cannon have had quite the impact on the fighting game community with contributions like the Evolution Championship Series, the GGPO middleware for online play, and Shoryuken.com. For over a year, the duo has been working on its first game, and it’s a step in an unusual direction. Stonehearth is a city-building simulation game that’s said to be “equal parts sandbox, real-time strategy, and RPG.”

“We love fighters deeply, but from the time we were kids we’ve also been passionate about geeky simulation games,” says Tom Cannon. The Kickstarter for Stonehearth is now live, with the main campaign going toward funding single-player while co-op and PvP functionality are relegated to stretch goals.

These types of games are obviously in right now, and although this may appear familiar in more ways than one, it’s got some compelling ideas. I particularly like the look of the class system for leveling up settlers. And, yeah, that Cthulhu-looking fellow. Of course.

Need to see more substance? This demonstration shows a familiar sight for the genre — chopping down trees — plus the design phase and construction of a basic house in Stonehearth.
