Annual FGC throwdown looking doubtful

The organisers of the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) have released a statement with regards to this year’s event, currently scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 31 in Las Vegas, NV.

The statement, posted to the official EVO twitter account, suggests that the team is “moving forward” with its plans to hold the annual fighting game tournament this summer, but that organisers are “actively monitoring” the situation regarding the COVID-19 (or “coronavirus”) pandemic. Should EVO 2020 be postponed or cancelled, all ticket holders will be entitled to a refund.

As of this writing, the regular EVO venue – the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino – isn’t even open to the public. Las Vegas has metaphorically “pulled the plug” on itself today, shutting down its internationally renowned strip of casinos, bars, and restaurants. Should EVO 2020 not take place as scheduled, it would join a very long and constantly increasing list of gaming events that have been postponed or cancelled in the wake of the pandemic.

EVO 2020 is scheduled to take place July 31-August 2 and Mandalay Bay Hotel, Las Vegas.
