EVO 2011 smashes online viewership records

EVO Championship Series 2011 has ended on a particularly high note this year. The event was streamed online to more than two million viewers over the course of three days, destroying previous known records of a competitive gaming event. Destructoid’s own Jesse Cortez was there interviewing anyone and everyone important in the fighting game scene in attendance, including Capcom’s community super god Seth Killian.

If you too would like to challenge the record for yourself, here are some very simple steps to host an event on the level of EVO 2011. Simply have more than 2,400 world warriors from 44 countries together in Las Vegas and an audience consuming more than 1.9 million hours of footage combined, with each viewer watching an average of 55 minutes each.

It also helps for four of your finalists to be in the top ten trending topics on Twitter. EVO 2011 was also the highest attended fighting game event ever. The roster of games available included Marvel Vs Capcom 3, Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition, Mortal Kombat, Tekken 6 and BlazBlue Continuum Shift 2.

If you missed the tournament for whatever reason then this video of its Top 5 Hype Moments does a damn good job of showing you just what you were missing, such as the eight year old that completely kicked a grown man’s ass on the world stage.
