Everything you need to know about Elder Scrolls Online

And a lot of trees

Recommended Videos

After many months of silence, a wild Bethesda popped its head out of its hole to deliver us this nine-minute video of The Elder Scrolls Online. For many of us, this will serve as a first look at the game’s combat, systems, worlds, and — OH YEAH — trees. You can never have enough trees in your MMO.

Older Elder Scrolls fans may be excited to see familiar places and races of the early games, while recent Skyrim players may be disappointed to see how different the game looks, being that it takes place 1,000 years before Skyrim. Yet, the added color and other subtle adjustments to the familiar Elder Scrolls aesthetic make it a little too much like Fable to these eyes.

Combat should be familiar to players of the genre. “Tap left click to attack, hold to power. Hold right to block,” a designer explains. The animations look very nice and fluid, but I’ll reserve judgement until I see a live demo. The video goes on to explain how servers, world, and alliances will work.

Basically, if you want to know almost everything about the game, watch the above video. The Elder Scrolls Online will arrive for PC and Mac in 2013. Still no news on console releases or payment structure.
