Everything gets blown up in Ninja Theory’s Enslaved

Big fan of Heavenly Sword, I am. Not the perfect game or the blockbuster PlayStation 3 exclusive Sony had banked on, but developer Ninja Theory proved it had the chops to make a solid, original action title. Is that not enough for me to be curious about its upcoming multiplatform title, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West?

The game follows the big tattooed brute Monkey who teams with the tech savvy Trip after escaping from a slave ship. Ninja Theory is calling the game a “tactical action-adventure” which leaves me a bit skeptical, but it’s the game’s narrative that really has me intrigued. The game’s script was penned by Alex Garland (Sunshine, 28 Days Later) and coupled with Ninja Theory’s impressive tech (see also: the awesome cut-scenes of Heavenly Sword), there’s a lot of potential here.

Publisher Namco Bandai just shot over the latest screens for the game, and almost all of them show something exploding. In some circles that’s known as “character development.” Enslaved is slated for release later this year on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
