‘Everyone’ might be returning for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, but not ‘Everywhere’

Which lucky locales will make the cut?

It’s common knowledge that one of the marquee points of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for Switch is that its roster is going to be packed out with (pretty much) every fighter to ever grace the anti-gravity platforms of Nintendo’s brawler series. But what about the stages themselves?

In an interview with Famitsu, Nintendo Treehouse’s Nate Bihldorff and Bill Trinen mentioned that although Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature an all-star cast, the huge plethora of stages will not all be making the return to host the epic battle. “Not all past stages are going to be in the game but a whole lot of them will” reads the comment, translated by Source Gaming.

I don’t think any of us were expecting every single stage to make a return, especially considering that would include reconstructing many from Smash’s earlier years from the ground up. There has also been plenty of controversy involving certain stages across the history of competitive Smash, which rendered several locales unfit for tournament play.

Still, the comprehensive list of Smash stages throughout the ages is as far-reaching as the roster itself, so it will be interesting to see which of these famous battlegrounds makes the grade when the game launches later this year. Which of your favourite stages would you want to see return?

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate launches on Nintendo Switch December 7.
