Even more real-world products promoted by NES icons

I’m a little confused. Sometimes, someone makes a batch of minimalist posters featuring pixel art and it’s beloved by all. Other times, some people get really upset, as though these harmless pieces have offended their sensibilities. To that latter group, you guys could probably use a relaxing trip to the spa.

I’ve always valued minimalism’s ability to convey a message as efficiently as possible. It’s the same reason why pixel art is so fascinating; with a limited palette and size restrictions, it takes cleverness to arrange the dots and colors in a pattern that is instantly recognizable. When the arrangement is not recognizable right away, it becomes somewhat of a puzzle; once you solve that puzzle, the image becomes as clear as day.

Earlier this year, I shared some fake magazine ads designed by Polish designer MaQ. These ads featured major brand names as marketed by NES characters, in much the same way an American celebrity would star in a Japanese commercial for a product he or she probably never heard of just to make a quick buck. MaQ has returned with another set of ads, some more obvious than others. The most ironic entry is the “Pizza Hut X Konami” one, considering that the Ninja Turtles franchise did in fact run heavy-duty cross promotion with Pizza Hut, from the ridiculously bad concert tour to TMNT2 on NES.
