EVE Online recently ran into some technical difficulties the other day because of a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS), and the servers were offline for several hours. Of course players didn’t like not having access to the game, so as way of saying “sorry for the downtime,” CCP is issuing all active players 50,000 skill points to use as they see fit.

Skill points are normally earned over time as players learn new skills. All training and “leveling” in EVE Online is done in real time, so when the servers are offline, all skills will stop leveling up. This boost of skill points makes up for the server being down, plus a really generous extra amount as a way of giving something to players to smooth over any hard feelings.

These skill points come at a great time since CCP’s latest major expansion, Odyssey, came out today. To celebrate this new addition to the game, you can buy EVE for just $4.98 on Steam.
