Evading the cops and using tablets in Watch Dogs

Cruisin’ and sneakin’

Aiden Pearce is up to his old tricks again, getting into all sorts of bother in the PlayStation 4 demo of Watch Dogs. Pearce is shown trying to keep a low profile as he makes his way to a chum who, like Pearce himself, is being hunted by the authorities.

The super-hacker drives around Chicago as stealthily as a man in a big car can, before arriving in a coffee shop just as an alert goes out on the TV telling people to call the police should they spot him. An annoying do-gooder does exactly this, but not before his call gets intercepted by Pearce, and his phone is slapped to the ground.

In the apartment of his chum, Pearce uses his hacking skills to distract the cops, allowing his beardy pal to sneak past them. Once again fleeing the police — it’s a full-time job — we get the chance to see Watch Dog‘s tablet integration. Pearce calls in help from another friend, in reality a dev with a tablet, who is able to interact with the game and hamper police progress.

Eventually the authorities catch up with their quarry, but as he puts his hands up, he shorts out the lights throughout the entire city, giving him the perfect opportunity to escape.

I feel that we’ve been a bit saturated with Watch Dogs videos since it was first announced, yet it still managed to impress me yet again — even if I’m starting to get a bit tired of seeing it, and I’d rather just play it. The tablet/co-op feature was a nice touch, but doesn’t seem all that integral to the game, and while the city-wide blackout was impressive, I do have fears that such scenes are heavily scripted.
