Episode 2 of Life is Strange 2 won’t release until January

Dontnod is prioritizing quality over timeliness

So, when’s the next episode of Life is Strange 2 coming out? For two months, fans have been asking that question with increasing impatience. Dontnod Entertainment has divulged a release window.

In a blog post, the studio said to expect Episode 2: Rules in January 2019, with more details arriving in mid-December. What’s the holdup? Dontnod said it doesn’t want to rush Life is Strange 2 and “thereby fail to meet the benchmark of quality and emotional impact that you, our players, deserve.”

“We understand that there are certain expectations that episodes will be released at a similar cadence as previous Life is Strange games have,” the article continued. “The ambition of Life is Strange 2, however, means that the previous frameworks no longer apply if we are to meet the quality of play and storytelling that our vision for a game like this demands and that you deserve.”

Sluggish release timing is not a problem unique to Life is Strange. It’s the exact reason I try my best to hold off playing episodic games until they are complete or at least nearing the end of their production. Brett’s positive review of Episode 1: Roads ensured I’ll play this game. Just not anytime soon.
