The 2009 D.I.C.E. summit is going down this week in the always wonderful Las Vegas, and it is here that Epic Games announced the winners of Phase 2 of the $1 Million Intel Make Something Real Contest. The way it works is simple: make the best mods for Unreal Tournament III and get a ton of cash. In this portion of the contest, $70,000 in prizes have been rewarded to mod makers who place in the categories.

These mods will be showcased next month at the 2009 Game Developers Conference. And that’s a big deal if you think about it, as people that make these mods often get promoted to making games.

“Epic’s mod contest has provided benefits for both mod authors and the game industry alike,” said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, Inc. “Past winners have gone on to ship commercial games using the Unreal Engine, and several former members of the Unreal mod community have found jobs either with Epic or with companies licensing the Unreal Engine.”

If you’re wanting to get in on the action, you still have two more phases to enter into before the finals. Phase 3’s deadline is May 15th.

Below the jump you’ll find a list of the winners, and above is a video of some of the finalists.
