For those of you out there that still think an RTS can succeed on a console, it might be time to download Tom Clancy’s EndWar. Recently, Ubisoft released a fully public demo of the game on Xbox Live Marketplace that features both single-player and multiplayer components, with the hook that troop movements can be controlled by your voice.
The single-player portion of the demo will serve as a tutorial to orient players to the controls and mechanics of the game. The multiplayer portion has one mode called Conquest in which players will have to secure all uplinks on the demo’s only map, La Mancha, Spain.
I briefly downloaded the demo out of expectations that it would be tanks versus windmills and old, deluded men. Upon booting up the game, I found neither of the latter and thus deleted the demo and lit my hard drive on fire to make sure that the data was completely gone. How dare Ubisoft raise my expectations like they did.
