Ellen Page comments on The Last of Us likeness

“It was not appreciated”

Ellen Page isn’t exactly thrilled that her likeness was used without permission in Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, besides her appearing by name in another Sony production. In fact, it’s specifically because she’ll be in Beyond: Two Souls that she can’t feel flattered about having her face nabbed.

“I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness,” she said in a Reddit AMA, “but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated.”

I must admit, the likeness is such that it’s hard not to think Page was explicitly involved in The Last of Us, and I can certainly see why a professional actress would not be a fan of having her likeness — which is, after all, tied intrinsically to her job — used without consultation. If anything, the fact she’s left it simply at one comment is pretty cool of her.

Naughty Dog’s only sort of response thus far comes from creative director Neil Druckman, who simply highlighted and praised the performance of Ashley Johnson, who portrayed Ellie in the game.
