Elden Ring Nightreign’s solo mode is so difficult it’s already getting nerfed pretty hard

But the game has hit an impressive sales milestone on day one.

The night is dark and full of gamers. Elden Ring: Nightreign has already hit two million sales on its first day, but one facet of the game is so difficult it already is getting nerfed.

While From Software’s latest Soulslike game is built for co-op play with friends, Nightreign also has a solo mode that’s so punishing that the developer has already confirmed multiple changes to make it easier in an update next week.

Since the game is built around co-op play for three players, the scaling for solo play is definitely a bit harsh. And so FromSoftware announced today that it will be buffing the amount of Runes gained in solo play to help even the playing field, while also allowing for one automatic revival upon death to keep players in the fight.

This is definitely a welcome change, considering that the game lacks crossplay, support for duos, and has scarce communication mechanics in-game including no voice chat support. This change to solo play should hopefully encourage more players to try the game out or at least give those who have bought it already some reason to go it alone while waiting for friends.

In my review period with the game, I barely touched solo play because it did not feel very fair. The Night Lord bosses, especially, feel like they’re built for multiple players as opposed to just one where it may feel oppressive. Soulslike veterans may have an easier time with it, but the masses most likely need these nerfs.

In our review of Elden Ring: Nightreign, I called it a Soulslike with “seamless co-op, combined with the roguelike elements of games like Hades, with some of the urgency of battle royale games sprinkled in,” making for a fun yet flawed experience. It’s out now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC.
