Every other videogame franchise seems to be celebrating a major anniversary lately. However, there’s one little series that seems to have slipped everyone’s mind. Everyone except Dtoider TheManchild, whose retrospective article on Ecco the Dolphin reminds us that the Genesis original first landed on July 29, 1992.

Wuh-WHUT!? And we didn’t even bake a cake!

If we had known, I’d guarantee there would have been a week’s worth of features leading up to today. This humble post may not be much, but hopefully it’ll stir fond memories of ocean adventures, time travel, shape-shifting, aliens, playful frolicking, and really, really beautiful music.

So if you’ve got a Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Game Gear, or Dreamcast just lying around, fire up your copy of Ecco or the sequels. Hell, go download it on Virtual Console, Steam, or iOS if you have to!
