EA tweaks Origin EULA, makes it sound less like spyware

Following the righteous fury of a thousand angry Reddit users, Electronic Arts has tweaked the EULA for its Origin service, toning down the language used in order to make it sound less like glorified spyware that gives EA the right to mine your personal data. Oh, but it’s still gonna get that info!

“EA knows that you care how information about you is collected, used and shared, and we appreciate your trust that we will do so carefully and sensibly,” reads the revised agreement. “Information about our customers is an important part of our business, and EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users’ machines.”

The language is toned down, but the fact remains that EA still reserves the right to dig into your computer and find out what you’re running, what’s plugged in, and what underwear you’re wearing (probably). There is still no way to opt out of this, either, so if you install Origin, you give EA this right by default.
