Ten years. Kind of a long time, isn’t it? Enough for entire generations of videogames to come and go. Even still, Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown was quoted at the UBS Annual Media and Communications Conference in New York as saying Star Wars: The Old Republic will be around for that long. Or, that’s the plan, anyway.
“Our assumptions for break-even and profitability are not seven-digit subscribers. We think we can run and operate a very successful and profitable MMO at different levels,” Brown says. “The key thing here is to really perfect the product. We’re shooting for an extremely high quality game experience. We view this as a ten-year opportunity.”
I’m glad someone has faith in the project. While ten years might be overselling it, I suppose as far as non-World of Warcraft MMOs go, The Old Republic has a relatively good chance to stick it out for the long haul. What say you, people who play these sorts of games? Any insight?
