EA is shutting down online for these sports games soon

Less than two weeks until retirement

There can be a sense of urgency to buying games, knowing that if you wait too long, some of the functionality may no longer exist. Whether it’s the servers getting physically shut down or simply a dwindling community of online players, sometimes, waiting for that great price drop might not be the right move after all. Electronic Arts is retiring a number of titles this month, starting with this selection on January 11, 2013:

  • FIFA Soccer 11 for PC, PS3, Wii & Xbox 360
  • FIFA Soccer 11 Ultimate Team for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • Madden NFL 11 for PS3, Wii & Xbox 360
  • Madden NFL 11 Ultimate Team for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NBA JAM for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NBA LIVE 10 for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NCAA Football 11 for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NHL 11 for PS3 & Xbox 360
  • NHL 11 Ultimate Team for PS3 & Xbox 360

This is followed by The Sims 2 (PC/Mac, and TheSims2.com) on January 14, in addition to Trenches II (iOS) on January 19. While I personally have never dabbled in online play for any of these games, I feel your pain if you have. Think of the lost Achievements and Trophies!
