EA gets dark with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Unsurprisingly, Electronic Arts has announced that it has a game based on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 in the works.

The title, like the books (and subsequent games), will be a shift in tone when compared to the earlier Harry Potter titles. The action-based Deathly Hallows has Harry, along with pals Hermione and Ron, outside of Hogwarts and on the run, facing off against Death Eaters and other unpleasantness.

One of the screenshots shows Potter hiding behind a girder, which suggests a pop-and-shoot cover mechanic. You know, like Gears of War, only with magics and wizards. Can’t wait to see the Weasley curb stomp.

The game is development for all of the usual suspects — PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. The game, like the upcoming film, will be broken up into two separate titles. Part I should ship this year alongside the film, with Part II following in 2011.
