Dutch developer Ronimo Games (Swords and Soldiers, the original de Blob student project) has been hard at work on a 2D multiplayer battle arena game for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. Technically, it’s a MOBA game (League of Legends, Defence of the Ancients) with a strong arcade focus.

There are not a whole lot of details on Awesomenauts yet, but the trailer should give you a pretty good idea of what the game is like. Attacks seem mapped to the face buttons, and you can run around with friends and have fun blasting each other.

Castle Crashers already showed that there is a ton of fun to be had with cute downloadable multiplayer titles that are not first-person shooters. So perhaps Awesomenauts can bring some Smash Bros.-type party madness, mixed with some team-based combat, to the HD consoles for similar success. It already looks great, so keep your eye on this one.
