E3 09: RUSE will have touch screen support

Recommended Videos

The RUSE battlefield is represented as a battle map within a Command Center. Zoom out to the maximum and you can see in the background the current war room you’re situated in with soldiers and personal working around the room. The focus is supposed to be on the map you’re playing on and this isn’t meant to distract or take the player’s focus away from the thing they’re supposed to be focused on. It’s more to make the player feel like they’re a General giving out his troops orders.

It’s a nice feeling, and it’s made even better thanks to the fact that RUSE has (multi) touch screen support. You can use the controller or keyboard to perform the same actions as the touch screen, but it feels like you’re an actually General by physically touching your troops, telling them what to do and watching the carnage unfold.

Too bad a table like the one you see above is somewhere around $10,000 last I checked. Of course you can still use a touch screen monitor, but something about standing over a giant touch screen like that to command troops around feels much more intense then you would get from sitting in front of a regular touch screen monitor.

I look forward to the day giant ass touch screens are affordable in the everyday home. Probably another ten years or so, right? As for the game itself, check out this trailer to see what RUSE looks like in action. It does a much better job than I would trying to explain an RTS game.
