E3 09: Army of Two: The 40th Day still rocks the destruction

I’ve already seen Army of Two: The 40th Day. A few months back, I got a hands-off demo of the game, and came away pretty impressed. Too bad EA is pulling a fast one, and the only thing we got to see of Army of Two: The 40th Day was…a hands-off demo. Thanks EA.

Thankfully for the Positive Polly’s out there, EA did actually show off some new stuff, and the general game is looking much more chaotic, which is a great thing. Helicopters carrying tanks slam into buildings, hoards of people run for their lives and even whole skyscrapers fall on top of each other off in the distance, all while Rios and Salem scramble down an already toppled building. Busting caps in a scene straight from Cloverfield looked very cool.

Best scene, hands down, was in an office building. Rios and Salem are running through and taking hostages, and between all of this, the ceiling literally rips away as the building they are in bends in half and falls away. EA’s goal for organic destruction looks really cool.

The morality mode was also worth noting. There will be times where the dudes will have a chance to be bad and get stuff, or be good, and maybe be rewarded later on. Our example was a choice between leaving some guns behind or killing an innocent security guard. The group I was with chose killing the security guards (my group was mean). However, with that decision, we were assaulted with images of the guy’s family, his crying kid, and more. It’s very cool to be assaulted with more long term consequences of evil in this game.

I also saw an update to the weapon customization. Basically, any part of any gun is interchangeable, including things like Coca-Cola silencers. According to the reps, it’s “Lego with guns”. So you heard it here first: Lego Army of Two!
