One of the most influential RPGs ever now playable on your phone or tablet

The original Dragon Quest is now available on iOS and Android devices for $2.99 / £1.99 / €2.69.

The classic NES role-playing game was first released in Japan by Enix in 1986, and was localized for North American audiences as Dragon Warrior in 1989. The title is often credited for popularizing the genre, and was successful enough to convince then rival developer Square to greenlight the original Final Fantasy.

The story takes place in Alefgard, a land overrun by the forces of darkness. Players take on the role of a young warrior who sets out to save the kingdom and rescue its princess from the evil Dragonlord. Yep, that old chestnut. It was a tad less cliché in the 80s. Probably.

Today’s mobile release marks the title’s first official release in Europe, and includes a number of changes to the visuals and user interface to better suit the platform.
