Dr Mario WiiWare allows Japanese owners to share a demo with friends

For those of you who were less than pleased about the recent news on microtransactions playing a large role in Square’s upcoming WiiWare title My Life as a King, this may come as better news … maybe. Dr. Mario’s Virus Buster (a WiiWare launch title in Japan) has a cool little special feature up its sleeve. If you own the full version of the game, you can message a friend a link to allow them to download a demo of the game which will allow them to play classic Dr. Mario multiplayer matches against their friends.
While this is cool, there’s something more important than the actual demo at hand here: This confirms that WiiWare can support demo games. Whether they will make a habit of it or not is anyone’s guess, but the success of demos for downloadable games would certainly make Nintendo look behind on the times if they didn’t participate in full.
Anyway, check out the video above to see how it works to send the demo to a friend. (Unfortunately, a Japanese friend cannot send it to an American Wii, so don’t bother to try unless your Wii is imported!)
