Teases buried within new site
Double Fine Productions has announced yet another new game today, Hack n Slash, revealed with a new website showing a singular image (seen above). If you want to know a little more, you’re going to have to work for it.
Clicking that image on the site starts the download of a file with a JPEG file extension which is, in reality, a ZIP archive containing a video, the game’s title theme and a text file. The rabbit hole goes still deeper than that, as the video features tons of single-frame flashes of the same runic text seen in the grid of the original image.
For their part, Double Fine swears this isn’t an ARG, just some teases players can dig up if they’re into that sort of thing. Of course, the way you get that message is by viewing the properties of the downloaded file, a step many may not even consider trying, so I’m sure nobody will be confused by any of it.
Curious as I am, I draw the line at capturing single frames of video to translate runes. I’ll leave that to the rest of you Internet Matlocks.
